Cori Dahl (Benson) was born in Seattle, Washington, (USA) and is today a resident of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She is an former professional snowboarder, a real estate agent, a wife, and a mother of one very cute kid.
Cori was born Cori Benson, in Seattle's Overlake Hospital. Cori grew up in scenic Issaquah, Washington, attending private elementary school and public middle school before starting at Issaquah's (public) Liberty High School. Cori had a quite pleasant high school experience, excelling in varsity basketball, softball and soccer and doing well in classes. She was her class vice president, a scholar athlete, vice president of SIGNETS service club and a member Young Life. She worked part time as a lifeguard/swim instructor and a model for Seattle Models Guild.
After high school graduation and a short stint at Bellevue Community College, Cori left home to enroll at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. The next four years were especially eventful, as she enthusiasticly jumped into the traditional American university experience. Cori joined a sorority (Kappa Delta), making many friends, including Jamie Hollingberry (Seaver). Cori graduated from WSU in 1995, having earned Bachelor's degrees in Sociology and Psychology.
Upon leaving college Cori got involved with high tech sales. She sold internet connectivity and services to corporate clients for WorldCom (which would later become WorldCom/MCI), working in the historic James T. Kirk building in downtown Seattle. Cori joined Visio, maker of the wildly popular charting and diagramming software of the same name, working in large corporation sales until Visio's acquisition by Microsoft. In search of her next challenge, Cori left Microsoft for Red Hat, the Linux service and support firm. Over the next two years, Cori built the Red Hat sales team, arguably the first sales organization for open source software. Following a move to the Jackson Hole ski resort town, Cori began a career as a pro snowboarder. After a couple of years of that, Cori took a position as the National Sales Manager for Croakies (the eye wear retainers) while working at Life-Link, maker of back-country ski products. After about two years she realized that this certainly wasn't her passion and she decided to follow her mom's footsteps and become a Realtor. She is currently a realtor and specializes in Teton Valley, Idaho and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Although Cori had long been snowboarding, the late nineties were a golden age for her with the sport. In the Pacific Northwest's epic snow year of 1998-1999, Cori largely missed out on the action, which drove her to commit to making the following winter a big one for her. In fact, that year she taught snowboarding at the legendary "steep and deep" ski area just east of Seattle, Alpental. Snowboard instructing was strictly a weekend activity for Cori, done more for recreation than for the pay. Cori counts many friends made at Alpental, including fellow instructors Dave and Melissa Bettes, Nancy and Dave Yost, Kirk and Joni Hardwick and Dave and Lauren Ahten. In 2001 Cori decided to chuck her high tech sales career to "recharge her batteries for a winter". She moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pursue a professional snowboarding career. After an amazing season she decided to stay in Jackson Hole for the summer. Then came another winter and after a couple of years of riding for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Glam Gear, Cori realized that she was too tall and didn't have enough guts to continue paying the bills as a professional snowboarder. She is still an avid snowboarder and loves to ride at Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole almost daily.
Following Red Hat's IPO, Cori resolved to take a few years off to relax and travel. In the European portion of her travel she travelled with Michelle Bula thru Germany, hitting Oktoberfest and Volksfest and making a special stop in Zimosheim, Bavaria to visit family. She filled out her grand tour of Europe with time in Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, France, and England, where she travelled with Rachel Pickles, before heading back to the Americas to visit Mexico. In 2003, on a whim she decided to join her brother in the famous snowsports playground of Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a winter of snowboarding. However, upon arrival she fell in love with the winters, then the summers, then one of its Deputy Sheriffs, Jon Dahl. They would marry, and a couple of years later, Cori would give birth to their daughter. They currently live just outside Jackson Hole with their daughter, dog and two cats...."living the dream".
