'Troy Williamson''' (born
April 30, 1983 in
Aiken, South Carolina) is an
American football player, a
wide receiver, entered the
NFL draft after his junior year in college, and was drafted with the seventh overall selection by the
Minnesota Vikings in the
2005 NFL Draft out of the
University of South Carolina. Troy Williamson attended Silver Bluff High School in Aiken, South Carolina, and he was a letterman and excelled in both football and track. In track, he was a two-time 100 and 200-meter dash state champion. In football, as a senior, he rushed for 890 yards and caught 21 passes for 500 yards (23.8 yards per rec. avg.). He was an All-American, a consensus All-State selection, won Class-AA Player of the Year honors presented by the High School Sports Report, a Mr. Football finalist for the state of South Carolina, and helped lead his team to back-to-back state championships. After his senior season, he was rated the fifth-best wide receiver prospect in the Atlantic Region by PrepStar.
*Fix this*, 10 carries for 84 yards (8.4 yards per rec.), 24 kickoff returns for 447 yards (18.6 yards per ret. avg.), and 4 solo tackles (which he garnered playing special teams). His 1,754 receiving yards rank seventh on the school's all-time receiving yardage list.
The Vikings needed a fast receiver with speed after trading away
Randy Moss to Oakland, so they drafted Williamson with the 7th overall pick in the first round of the
2005 NFL Draft. So far Williamson has been a "bust" in two seasons. In the 2006-2007 off season he claimed his vision was bad and that was the reason for all his drop balls. However, 2007 has not been a much better year (201 yards and 1 touchdown so far) and with the arrival of Sidney Rice it looks like he may not stick around much longer.
